Hmmm. That's a tought one. I'd have to plump for the Mark Millar tail about Lois from he 80 page giant a few years back and the Superman Goes to Blazes three parter from a while back now. Of the more recent stories it tends to be moments rather than entire stories - the complexity of the Luthor characterisation, etc.

I prefer the personal stories: 'Crisis at Home', for example, or 'Krimson Kryptonite'. Now, worst would be the 'Superman as executioner' from the end of the Byrne run.

Agh, of course you're right. I attribute the brain fart to lack of caffiene. I was also thinking of Waid's writing of Superman in JLA (as evidenced in my next paragraph) and somewhere the synapses fired wrong.

I especially like 'Red Glass,' a 3-issue arc : Superman #56, Adventures of Superman #479, and Action #666. One of the creepiest but enthralling Superman stories ever, and not an imaginary one either.

IIRC, this happened at the end of the Exile In Space storyline, when the Cleric used the Eradicator to recreate Superman's costume for him.

It's a Morrison JLA story. I don't remember the issue numbers offhand, but it's the one where those starfish-things attack earth and the king of dreams takes superman, wonder woman, and green lantern into the dream world to rescue a little boy. That's one of my favorite superman images, is him literally sweeping the awed child off his feet. I am that kid

Did anyone read a two-parter called 'A Crisis At Hand' from Man of Steel #16 and Superman #72? If so, is it worth a
