I've been trying to organize my comic collection, and for the most part, I'm keeping all of a title together. If a storyline is predominantly in Title A, but has some crossover with Title B or C, then I'll interfile the B and C issues with Title A in the appropriate place and note it on my list. For a massive crossover like Zero Hour, I pull the entire story arc together and file it as a story arc instead of by title.

However, the Superman titles are hard to do that way. My collecting goes back to the Byrne reboot. Initially, the Superman titles were separate, then they become essentially one ongoing weekly title, which led to the triangles, but now they are breaking back up again.

What I was thinking of doing was filing all the issues prior to 1989 by title (unless there was a crossover that called for altering it). Since it appears that the titles were essentially weekly prior to the appearance of the triangles in 1991, I'm 'assigning' my own triangle numbers (based on the order found in the index at http://www.supermanhomepage.com) starting with Jan. 1989 (except for Action Comics Weekly, which I keep separate until mid 1989, when it goes back to being monthly). I'll interfile them based on the triangle numbers until December of 2001. Starting in 2002, I'll go back to filing them separately by title (I'm disregarding the triangle numbers for Jan. 2002).

This seems like a somewhat complicated way of going about it, though. Has anybody found a better way to file their Superman titles in order to handle the conflict between keeping storylines together and keeping titles together?

File the comics by title and issue number, and keep a separate list of the triangle order. That way you'll be able to find any individual issue of any title instantly, and you'll also be able to quickly assemble any story arc by looking at your list. You should have your collection indexed on a spreadsheet or database; that'll make everything much easier. I indexed (via Excel) my wife's large Silver Age collection about ten years ago. It took me months, but I'm glad I did it.

In other words, do all your indexing on a spreadsheet, and keep the issues neatly arranged so you can quickly find one you need. Any other way, you'll go nuts trying to keep it all straight.
