I visited Fabio2's SUPERMAN LIVES page not long ago, and asked him what was going on with the script.
According to Fabio, the 'dark and murderous' Superman who was a staple of the Tim Burton scripts is not in the current Peters/Gilroy draft. In fact, after bowing to pressure from WB and Nic Cage, Peters and Gilroy reinstated the classic Superman, classic powers, classic suit (albeit in rubber), and classic personality. According to Fabio, this didn't sit well with Burton at all, who wanted his version to be used (i.e., 'dark and murderous,' using the Supermobile to get around, not wearing the standard suit

If I were a big name at WB and Peters refused to take an order (especially one as important as that) I would have him fired in a second, and then I'd cut all his prettyboy long hair off in his sleep and I'd stomp on his face and then I'd kick him in his face, etc., etc.,

Well, i don't think the whole willpower thing is too bad. Maybe it's stretching it a bit, but i think that's the least of our problems. There are plenty of other things wrong with this film (Cage, Peters, and on and on), fix those first.

The willpower thing strikes me as being really hokey, especially since Superman's powers are solar-generated. But you're right about Peters and company. They've gotta go.
