Smallvile's Dr. Hamilton Question

I'm throwing in some spoiler space in case last night's repeat is still new to others.

So is he dead or alive? After watching last nights episode I thought that it could be possible that Dr. Hamilton could still be alive. Now this is nit-picking a small plot hole, considering the producers don't feel the need to show EVERY detail. But I thought that perhaps they kept him alive to show up again with new powers and knowing Clark's true nature.

Last we see of the doctor he is lying on the floor, apparently dead, but let's take a look at some 'Facts'.

1- The doctor gets a large dose of kryptonite extract, and has violent shakes. Since Kryptonite always has different effects on people it possible it helped save him rather than kill him.

2- Pete never checks the body for a pulse. He just looks at Dr. Hamilton and tells Clark he's dead.

3- The body disappeared too fast between Clark and Pete leaving and Lex and Lionel showing up. Let's assume that Pete calls in an anonymous tip to the hospital that Dr. Hamilton is dead. Considering how smashed up the lab was, no coroner is going to enter an area with open unknown chemicals around and a dead body covered in those chemicals. I doubt the coroner looking into the barn thought 'Hmm, massive chemical spill, broken glass everywhere, dead body on the floor. No connection there

The bodies of the people Clark murders always vanish without a trace. Clearly the Smallville authorities have been doing this stuff for years.

This one, yeah, but some of those earlier kills were pretty dubious.

Even if Pete had been more thorough, Pete isn't a doctor, and some Kryptonite effect might have caused Pete or even someone with medical training to make a mistake.
