Please let this be a terrible joke: Acording to the hollywood reporter the newest director that has been mentioned for the new superman movie is oliver stone. I can see it now the destruction of krypton was a goverment plot created by the Reblican party. Also Superman will wear black leather and be More like the matrix just darker. Excuse me I have to go vomit now.

Stone isn't the hack that Burton is by a logn shot, but he ain't Superman material, that's fer sure.

As for Peters and his MATRIX ripoff approach...well, I'm really sorry to say this, but I think we may well be witnessing the death of Superman. For real.

I heard a story a couple of years ago, the first time around that they were planning on making the Superman movie with Nic Cage. Here's how it went... maybe somebody can verify the story, or add to it....

Nic Cage brought the newly designed Superman costume that he was to wear for the movie home to show his son. When his son saw the Superman costume... minus the red underwear that goes on the outside of the pants, he panicked. Nic's son said something to the effect of : 'Dad! What are you guys, NUTS or something??!! You don't screw with Superman's costume! It's Superman, for crying out loud! He's GOTTA have the red underwear!' Nic supposedly related this story back to the people in charge, and they consequently added the red underwear back to the costume, thus saving a near catastrophe that would've been imposed on all of us true Super-admirers. (Had the movie ever been made.)

Telling the story just now, I seem to recall that I read of it in Wizard magazine... or some other film/ comics mag. It's maybe been three years ago that they had done a big write-up on the film that was supposed to be released to theaters Summer of '97, or something like that.

Can anybody back me up on this?

Please take a deep breath and relax. Feel better? The above is just rumor. More likely then not, it won't be happening. I doubt WB would hand over a movie they want to be a blockbuster to a director who hasn't had a blockbuster in ten years. I also doubt they'd radically change the costume or persona of the character. It would be counterproductive as it would make the character one the movie going audience wouldn't know.

Remember earlier rumors attached to the film? They were crap and these are no different. Chances are, they're won't be a Superman film. At least not for a very long time. So take it easy and don't get overexcited for nothing.

Unless, of course, the X-Men is a smash hit...
