He'd just stand there while the bullets bounced off of him, but would duck when the crook threw the gun at him.

I protest, G.R. was a reasonable actor who did his level best with the material given him. I always found his version of Clark/Superman to be intriguing, as Clark he's snide and sarcastic but as Supes he is the model of Victorian decorum. I think the problem with George is that there were days he didn't like the job and shows up in his acting.

Ah. That must be why he's beloved and respected, and why we're still talking about his performance as Superman (as well as his general career) almost fifty years later.
