Clark Kent was never Superboy. He never adopted a costumed identity until after moving to Metropolis. But before this time he operated in secret, using his powers to help those he could. He started doing this in Smallville, and continued during the time between graduating from high school and entering college. In fact, he was doing this up to the time he rescued the space plane that revealed him to the world. True he never wore a costume or assumed a code name, but this can be considered as an unofficial Superboy.

Dear 'Kid' I am 53 years old. I read Superboy comics in the 50s and early 60s. There certainly was a Superboy who openly flew around Smallville fighting crime. Lana Lang, just like Lois Lane, always suspected teen-age Clark Kent of being Superboy. There was even a teen-aged Lex Luthor who once was friends with Superboy.

You're right, Jack-
There was a Superboy in the DC Universe of the 50's, 60's, and 70's. I thought that he was great. He was a shy quiet Clark Kent, and the young version of a great superhero, both. Wow!, He was my role model. Couldn't get enough of his comics back in those days.
