If I remember it correctly, it wasn't just an ordinary lightning, it was the lightning that transforms Bates to Captain Marvel, and that's magic lightning.

As we saw in Kingdom, Superman is very vulnerable to magic. (Ala WW's sword and good old 'Shazam'.) Every hammer toss sends both a magic weapon and a lightning bolt at Superman.

Unless you can count on Superman taking out Thor without Thor ever striking Superman, it is the beginning of the end for Superman the first time the hammer hits him.

Of course, Superman's speed

lightning.

Hold the phone there, hoss. This isn't the DC group, but you might want to give it a try. It's 'that' good

Accually it -is- the DC group, check the crossposting (rec.arts.comics.dc.universe) is part of it.

This has varied all over the map as what magic is in the Marvel universe.

Pre-Crisis Superman was as susceptible to magic items as he was to magical weapons but post Crisis it little less certain.

Do'h. I knew I would get the name wrong. Probably because I just reread the early Miracleman-issues.

Yes, sir... and this is even explicitly spelled out in the previous chapter of KINGDOM COME, in a scene with Wonder Woman.

Magical Enchantment by Odin.

Doesn't get more magic than that except for Dr. Strange. Even Loki is second to Odin.

<< >At one time, it was mentioned that Thor could swing Mjolnir at three times

Hmmm. I remember, WAY back when, he had to swing the hammer at EXACTLY twice the speed of light to open a vortex of some kind, probably a time travel thing - pretty good control there, come to think of it

Remember, there is no year zero in the Gregorian calendar; the 21st Century and the Third Millennium start in 2001, not 2000.

I think that's what the writers wanted. Some weakness that, regardless of the scenario, Superman could be susceptible to.

Even in Kingdom Come....After years of exposure to the yellow sun (and god knows what else) he must've been MUCH more invulnerable...a 'tougher hide' if you will....but just a touch of that sword of Wonder Womans cut him.

Which brings up an interesting point......is there anything 'Super' about Superman's blood? Or other internal organs? Hmmm?

No. It comes nowhere near the Inhuman series.

Magic hurts Superman just by essence of it being magic? Is it that

Well, does anyone know exactly what it is about our sun that makes Supes 'super'? Is it UV radiation? Vitamin D? The colour yellow?

IOW, is it something that would affect just his skin or his whole body?
